Grant Procedures

BE THE ONE INC. Provides $500.00 and $1000.00 grants to those families in the process of adoption in the States of Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky, who apply and qualify.

Application Procedures and Selection Process for Grant Dispersal
Who May Apply:
o Families residing in the states of Indiana, Kentucky, or Ohio are eligible to
apply. Our application process is ongoing. Applications are accepted at any
time of the year. All applications received during the current quarter (Jan-
Mar / Apr-June / July-Sept / Oct.-Dec.) will be reviewed by the board at the
next board meeting (January/April/July/October).
o Families may apply at any point in the adoption process whether matched or
unmatched with a child.
o Families may apply who are adopting internationally or domestically. It is
our preference that families be working with an accredited adoption service
provider (ASP). Those families who are adopting domestically and are using
an attorney will be considered on a case-by-case basis if the attorney is a
licensed adoption attorney. Be The One will not provide grant money for
adoption consultants or facilitators. If you are working with an adoption
consultant, please wait to apply until you have been matched with a child
and their agency/attorney. Be The One will not provide grant money to pay
off loans taken out for the purpose of adoption unless the grant money can
be paid to the ASP.
Submission to the Board:
o All applications are presented to the Board of Directors for their review and
final decision. Grant decisions and grant amounts are determined by the
Board.
o Our goal is for children to be adopted into traditional two-parent (one
man/one woman) Christian families. Single applicants will be considered
using the same selection criteria. The selection of families for awarding
grants will be based on the following:
1. Families who are committed to the Christian faith.
2. The needs of the child.
3. The financial needs of the adoptive couple.
4. The availability of funds.

Notification:

Approved by Board of Directors July 13, 2022
o All grant applicants will be notified by email when their application is
received.
o All grant applicants will be notified by email of the Board’s decision
whether approved or denied.
Application Process
o The application process begins by filling out and sending in an
application along with the supporting documents. Supporting
documents include:
1. Letter from an accredited adoption agency stating that the
applicant is in the process of pursuing an adoption of a child with
their agency.
2. Letter from the applicant’s church pastor or elder recommending them
for a grant.
3. List of expenses for the adoption as provided by their agency and
indication of which charges have already been paid, including any
grant money already awarded to them.
4. A signed Statement of Faith downloaded from the website.

Application Status
o Applications will be assessed to ensure that the applicants and
adoption meet our general criteria.
o If there is missing documentation, the applicant will be contacted by
email to inform them.
o Applicants may be contacted by the president of the board if
clarification is needed or if an update on the adoption is needed.
Grant Disbursement
o The president will contact the adoption service provider before
dispersing funds to ensure that the couple is still committed to the
adoption, that the adoption is progressing according to the agency’s
timeline and that the couple would still benefit from receiving the
grant.
o Funds will be dispersed to the adoption agency within a week of the grant
approval.
